Ubuntu 21.04 Hirsute Hippo Beta Released

The beta version of Ubuntu 21.04 Hirsute Hippo for desktop, server and cloud has been released by Canonical . Additionally , there are downloadable beta versions of alternative Ubuntu options such as Kubuntu , Lubuntu , Ubuntu Budgie , UbuntuKylin , Ubuntu MATE , Ubuntu Studio and Xubuntu .

Ubuntu 21.04 for desktop includes the new 5.11 Linux kernel . In this way, more hardware is supported. Also Canonical switches from X.org to Wayland sessions by default . Unlike Fedora 34, Canonical decided to stick with GNOME 3.38 in order to adapt the desktop extensions to work properly with GNOME 40 .

Canonical’s announcement is exactly as follows:

“The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the Beta version of Ubuntu 21.04 Desktop, Server and Cloud products.

21.04, codenamed “Hirsute Hippo”, continues Ubuntu’s tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. The team works hard throughout this cycle, introducing new features and fixing bugs. ”

Users who want to use the Ubuntu 21.04 beta before the final release, which will arrive on April 22, should go to the mailing list announcement , where links to all available Ubuntu 21.04 beta releases and options . Please also note that this software is still under development and you may encounter bugs. You can also report the errors you find to Canonical so that they are corrected before the final release.
