The Apollo concept car is equipped with a Level 5 autopilot that fully controls the controls, eliminating the need for human intervention.
Chinese technology company Baidu, the market leader in internet search technologies, artificial intelligence and cloud services, has unveiled its first “robocar.” The Apollo concept car is equipped with an automatic control system that matches the autopilot of the fifth level; it lacks external controls, including steering wheel and pedals. Artificial intelligence controls the control completely independently, without requiring human intervention.
Distinctive features of its external appearance – an unusual body with an extensive line of glass, including a transparent roof with automatic dimming, as well as large electric doors that open upwards, the so-called “gull wings”. A digital panel is installed in front.
In the center of the dash is a huge curved infotainment display. It supports voice, face and gesture recognition functions of people in the cabin with the possibility of self-learning, which will allow the car to recognize the preferences of passengers, remember them and act according to various scenarios.
There are no plans for the serial production of such machines yet. At the same time, Baidu launched its own automatic taxi service called Go Robotaxi in China in the first half of 2021. Autonomous vehicles have already transported more than 400 thousand passengers, and the total distance traveled has exceeded 14 million kilometers.
