“Die Hard” prequel with young John McClain canceled amid Fox deal with Disney

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told Polygon that the project in the Die Hard franchise will not go into production .

Bonaventure openly stated that this film will not take place, but the producer stressed that he does not know what plans are now for the franchise at 20th Century Studios, which is owned by Disney. The deal between the companies took place in 2019, and at that time a new Die Hard tape had been discussed for several years.

The sixth “Die Hard” was supposed to be directed by Len Wiseman, who previously shot the fourth part of the series. The project was both a prequel restart and a sequel.

The events of the action movie would unfold at once in two time intervals: in the past, where the role of young McClane would be played by another actor, and in the present – with Bruce Willis. Bonaventure noted that the film was supposed to resemble The Godfather 2.

The last film in the series to date, subtitled A Good Day to Die, was released in 2013. In it, the main character goes to Russia to save his son, who was accused of contract murder.

Die Hard 5 received mostly negative reviews from the press, with a Metacritic rating of 28 out of 100 and a 15% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes .
