Metal Gear Solid is one of the most iconic franchises in video games and has had several installments over almost 35 years. The series has been adapted to various media, such as comics, but never to an animated series. However, there was interest in doing so, but the idea was rejected.
Many fans of the series may have ever wondered why Konami never made an animated series adaptation, there was even a fan who recently shared how great a project of this style would look .
Well, you will be surprised to learn that Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear , an IP anime, was once proposed . The person responsible for the proposal was none other than Jason DeMarco, co-creator of Toonami, a renowned block of animation created in conjunction with Cartoon Network.
HIDEO KOJIMA JOKED WITH THE IDEA OF MAKING A METAL GEAR SOLID ANIME
DeMarco shared the curious anecdote from when he proposed the project to Kojima and Konami. According to the creative, he had the opportunity to meet Kojima 1 year after Metal Gear Solid went on sale (at the end of the last millennium) and he took the opportunity to propose the idea of making an anime of the series.
DeMarco told Kojima that he loved the series and explained what the adaptation would be like. Unfortunately, Kojima then looked at his producer, pointed at DeMarco, exclaimed “otaku” and laughed, according to DeMarco.
As you know, “otaku” is a Japanese word to refer to people who are nerdy or who are very fond of anime and manga.
About a year after Metal Gear Solid came out, I met with Kojima and discussed the idea of making a Metal Gear anime. I talked about how much I loved the games and what the anime might be like. He paused, looked at his producer, pointed at me and said "Otaku." and laughed.

You may think it was an unpleasant act; however, DeMarco explained that he did not take this seriously, but took it as a joke and remembers it as a funny anecdote.
“I like that people have enjoyed this story and see that they made it a meme. And for the snowflakes that say ‘they will never do anything or they won’t tell that story’ … what difference does it make? And it was fucking hilarious! “Commented DeMarco.
As for the series, DeMarco did not mention anything else about it or how the conversation ended beyond the joke. Thus, it is believed that after this Konami nor Hideo Kojima contemplated the idea of bringing Metal Gear Solid to the world of anime.
