One of the developers of Battlefield Hardline provided his opinion on the reasons for the failure of the game. According to him, the police subject matter clashed with the brand’s wartime traditions.
The Battlefield series is mostly made up of hits. One of the few exceptions to this rule was Battlefield Hardline released in 2015 . In a recent interview, Scott Warner, one of the game designers, admitted that the main reason for this failure was that the police theme did not fit the character of the series.
According to the developer, the Battlefield cycle revolves around multiplayer wars. Fans are used to large-scale clashes, powerful explosions and the destruction of buildings. Battlefield Hardline focused on skirmishes between law enforcement and criminals, and this is a completely different kind of action. As Scott said, policemen do not demolish skyscrapers, and such actions have become the standard in the war parts of the cycle.
Battlefield Hardline allowed you to play cops and thieves, which in itself is an attractive fantasy for many players, but not in the form of a game in this particular series. An attempt to combine the new concept with the tradition of the series led to constant clashes in the game, which the creators never managed to eliminate. I wonder if the production could do better as a new brand.
We would like to remind you that Battlefield Hardline was released in March 2015 for PC and Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game was received much cooler than other installments of the series. According to Metacritic, the PC version has an average rating of 71% , which is the worst result for this series.
