CoD: Black Ops Cold War’s zombie mode will be a giant sandbox

We are a few hours away from the debut of the Second Season of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and also from the presentation of a new experience in Zombies mode, Outbreak, which will take us to the Ural Mountains in the context of the Cold War and with different armed groups in search of the Dark Ether, an element that could put an end to the conflict. As part of this debut, we had the opportunity to chat with Craig Houston and Kevin Drew, who revealed some interesting details.

During the interview with Craig Houston, Treyarch writer and Kevin Drew, studio designer, we questioned them about Brote’s proposal and its commitment to freedom, not the linearity of previous installments, and the options that this provides for the player. In that sense, Kevin Drew told us: “It is a giant sandbox, we are not artificially restricting you in any way. How you reach your goal is up to you. You can use a jump pad and parachute skip the entire region. . I have done that of launching myself from a jump pad, falling all over the slope and I arrive perfectly at the beginning of the objective “.

For his part, Craig Houston celebrated what they have been able to achieve with Brote thanks to the technology of these times: “I had always wanted to do something of this type. If you go back and see previous maps, you can see that we were trying to open the space more, but they were the technical limitations of those years, with everything we learned from Blackout and obviously the success of Warzone , this was the right time and the right game to do it. It’s something we’ve been working on for a long time. ”

Finally, we asked the creatives about the number of zombies that we will find in Outbreak in a specific place and Kevin Drew’s answer was: “I think it’s around 40. About 40 zombies in an area at a specific time. You really see that. in the objectives because they are where all the players are. ”

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC.
