During the Tokyo Game Show 2021, it emerged that Final Fantasy 16 will have huge skill trees, to manage the progression of the characters.
Final Fantasy 16 will have huge skill trees to manage character progression. To say it was the producer Naoki Yoshida in a streaming from TGS 2021 with Hironobu Sakaguchi , the father of the Final Fantasy series, currently head of Mistwalker, the studio that recently launched Fantasian .
According to Yoshida, skill trees have been included to give the player the ability to progress characters in a way that feels unique. Sakaguchi then intervened on the subject, talking about his experience with Fantasian, confirming that one of the best moments of RPGs is when new skill trees are unlocked, because customization, even within the confines of pre-defined characters, is one of the main aspects of the experience.
Yoshida then said that Final Fantasy 16’s skill trees will expand similarly to Fantasian’s, agreeing with Sakaguchi that it’s better to have the ability to customize the default characters as well.
In the end, the two exchanged various courtesies, with Yoshida claiming to have been influenced by the games created by Sakaguchi and the latter declaring his love for Final Fantasy XIV and its ability to make players feel unique even in presence of others, expressing the desire to work on a scenario of the game and to design new costumes for it.
