God of War Ragnarok is not directed by Cory Barlog but by Eric Williams, with the director of the previous chapter working on a new game.
God of War: Ragnarok was undoubtedly among the major protagonists of the PlayStation Showcase of 9 September 2021, if not the absolute protagonist, but there is a particular detail, which emerged in the minutes following the presentation, which deserves to be highlighted, that is that Cory Barlog is not the director of the new chapter, as he is working on a new game .
As we have also reported in the various details that emerged together with the fact that God of War Ragnarok will be the ending of the Norse saga of Kratos , the game will not be directed yet by Barlog, responsible for the previous chapter on PS4 and the third-person action breakthrough he has. in fact relaunched the series.
The new God of War has Eric Williams as director, another key element of Sony Santa Monica and the God of War series in general, having also taken care of the development of the previous chapter.
“For us it is important to be able to move to a new perspective every time, but also to have a new pair of legs, in the sense that you get really exhausted when you come to the conclusion of one of these projects,” explained Barlog.
“So we have to deceive someone else and push them to take care of something like that, someone like him!” Jokingly said the author of the previous chapter, introducing Williams as the new director.
The latter also reported something about the desire to add some new touches to the game, so that it reflects a slightly different style: “From my point of view, we want to tell a very deep and epic story, about a journey between father and son, “explained Williams. “An ongoing kind of struggle between wanting to hold things back or letting them go, which is a very difficult human condition to deal with but we all have to deal with.”
“We want to achieve this effect by superimposing fragments of life, or even family drama if you like, on a Norse setting. In the end, we want to arrive at an ending that is truly surprising, if unavoidable, based on these things.”
One very interesting thing, however, is the fact that Cory Barlog seems to be working on something new, which he still can’t say anything about. Considering the capabilities demonstrated with God of War, we can still expect the next production of Barlog to be something of a big caliber and we can’t wait to find out more. In the meantime, we refer you to the first gameplay trailer for God of War: Ragnarok shown at the PlayStation Showcase.
