Netflix has started implementing a previously announced plan that will allow it to systematically offer its users new games. For a good start, the corporation took over the first studio and chose an intriguing team – Night School Studio joined the SVOD platform.
Netflix has officially announced that it is entering the gaming industry and intends to develop its own productions that will be available to customers as part of the subscription.
The streaming giant, however, does not stop at the news and takes decisive action – overnight, Night School Studio announced that it would be joining Netflix. The studio behind Oxenfree, Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltrati0n, Afterparty, Next Stop Nowhere and Oxenfree II: Lost Signals decided to cooperate with the company.
“Night School wants to stretch our narrative and design aspirations across distinctive, original games with heart. Netflix gives film, TV, and now game makers an unprecedented canvas to create and deliver excellent entertainment to millions of people. Our explorations in narrative gameplay and Netflix’s track record of supporting diverse storytellers was such a natural pairing. It felt like both teams came to this conclusion instinctively.“
“Of course, it’s a surreal honor to be the first games studio to join Netflix! Not only do we get to keep doing what we do, how we like to do it, but we get a front-row seat on the biggest entertainment platform in the world. The Netflix team has shown the utmost care for protecting our studio culture and creative vision. We’ll keep making OXENFREE II. We’ll keep cooking up new game worlds.“
Oxenfree 2, which was announced for various devices, has not been discussed at this time. However, we can suspect that in the future, Night School Studio will focus only on developing games debuting on the platform.
The news may be widely echoed in the gaming industry, as it turns out that Netflix has a certain budget to take over selected teams. With the right approach and adequate financing, very interesting titles may appear on the market in the future.
