Official Tomb Raider account might be hinting at a remake of the first game

During the State of Unreal event, Crystal Dynamics confirmed that the new Tomb Raider will use Unreal Engine 5 , the project is known as Tomb Raider Next and to date we know very little about the game … practically nothing.

However, some members of the Tomb Raider community are speculating that the next game in the series is actually a remake of the first Tomb Raider from 1996. A few hours after it was announced that the next Tomb Raider game was in active development under Unreal Engine 5 the official account suspiciously changed their cover to a reimagined artwork of Tomb Raider 1; alongside the official announcement video, the new logo of the franchise was unveiled as well, and is very reminiscent of the one used for the first games. This might be an actual hint at the new game being a remake.

This is obviously only a speculation and it could only be a case, moreover this would be the second remake of Tomb Raider 1 , which has already undergone the same treatment with Tomb Raider Anniversary of 2007. Crystal Dynamics will therefore return to the past (re) exploring the origins of Lara or the new game in the series will give life to a new trilogy?

At the moment everything is silent, but we know that Crystal Dynamics points to photorealism for the new Tomb Raider , thanks to the potential of Unreal Engine 5 . The trilogy consisting of Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider has been a great success but we do not know what direction the future of the saga has taken.
