It is no secret that Game Pass is one of Xbox’s bets to grow and have a privileged place in the future of gaming. However, just because it is a cornerstone of your strategy does not mean that it is the only thing that matters to the company. In fact, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, says he does not see a future in which all Xbox users are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.
Phil Spencer recently had a chat with Edge magazine in which he discussed the present and future of Xbox. There he mentioned that, contrary to what you might think, Xbox Game Pass is not the only important thing for Xbox. In fact, there are a lot of corners in the company that you must take care of in order to offer the experience that all of your different types of customer are looking for.
It is because of the above that Spencer was not a future where all the owners of an Xbox console are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass. In fact, you want the service to be an option for your users and not something mandatory. So, if you want to buy your games (whether physical or digital) instead of renting them on Xbox Game Pass, you have every right to do so.
“Do I want or envision a future where everyone on Xbox is an Xbox Game Pass subscriber? I do not do it. I want people to make their decision. Some people want to buy all the games we release and create their own library. “
What do you think of Phil Spencer’s statements? Do you think this is the most sensible strategy for Xbox? Tell us in the comments.
