For months there have been rumors about The Last of Us online, which were confirmed by Naughty Dog. It is too early for a larger presentation of the project, but at the end of The Last of Us, the developers announced the development of the production.
Before the premiere of The Last of Us 2, Naughty Dog confirmed that despite the plans for Factions (online mode), the team decided to delay the project and focus on the atmospheric storyline. For over a year, the position was only in the sphere of speculations and presumptions, meanwhile, at the end of the annual holiday, a message appeared on the studio’s website.
The devs thanked the fans for their support, mentioned the huge success (The Last of Us 2 is “the most awarded game of all time”), as well as addressed the important issue of the future of IP.
In short, we’re working on it – we see the community comments as many of you clamor for multiplayer and want updates. For now, we’ll say that we love what the team is developing and want to give them time to build out their ambitious project, we’ll reveal more when it’s ready! To that end, we’ve been busy growing our team inside the kennel since The Last of Us Part II launched and are currently in full swing of hiring for MP-related positions (hint hint), so if you or somebody you know qualifies for anything you see on our jobs page, apply!
The studio avoids even the smallest details, but it is worth noting that, according to previous rumors, the mode turned into a stand-alone production. We can assume that the developers will propose the game along with the dedicated The Last of Us 2 for PS5 (we do not know if there is a chance for a possible director’s release).
The Last of Us Day also revealed The Last of Us Part II: Covers and Rarities vinyl, a new Photo Mode contest, and a Joel figurine that you can see below – it can be ordered for $ 199 until October 29 .
