Geralt is not a man of many words, at least in Netflix’s games and TV series. Henry Cavill – who plays the character on the TV show – wants to change that in season 2 of The Witcher . Cavill recently spoke to SFX magazine and made it clear that Geralt will be a little different next season. “For this season, I wanted to push hard to make sure he was more wordy,” Cavill says. To him, this means ” less grunting and less swearing .”
“There is always a risk that a character becomes a whim and uniquely comical by grunting and swearing, and is not representative of the talent of [Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher series]. The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich also highlighted the changes Geralt’s character will undergo this season, particularly in regards to his new connection with his “Surprise Girl”, Ciri (Freya Allan), and her companions. Witcher in Kaer Morhen.
“In Season 1 , Geralt is a person who believes he doesn’t need anyone else, certainly not in the long term,” says Hissrich. “As a Witcher, as a monster hunter, he doesn’t want to have those bonds. Geralt feels they weaken him.”
